
Newark YMCA Elects Michelle Abel as Board Chair.
Newark NJ – January 19, 2022: The YMCA of Newark and Vicinity is pleased to announce the election of Michelle Abel as Chair of its Board of Trustees. Michelle has been an active volunteer for the Y for nearly 8 years, most recently serving as the Board’s Vice President and Chair of the Annual Support Campaign. Under her leadership the Y’s Annual Support Campaign raised funds to support housing for the homeless and scholarships for summer camps, swim lessons and healthy living programs. Michelle has also served on the Board’s Executive Committee, Diversity/Inclusion Committee, Annual Leaders & Legends Event Committee, MLK, Jr. Memorial Breakfast Event Committee, and Strategic Planning Committee.

Michelle has chaired our annual campaigns, provided leadership to many of our special events, and championed many of our initiatives.” noted Newark Y President and CEO, Michael C. I’m confident that with Michelle at the helm, we will continue to navigate these turbulent times of society, as well as make great achievements in serving the most vulnerable in our community.”
Michelle holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Montclair State University and is a 2018 Fellow of the Leadership Newark Public Policy Leadership Development Program. In 2012 Michelle Abel joined PNC Bank’s Community Development Banking Group as Vice President, Community Consultant covering the Northeast Territory. Michelle serves as the primary interface and key connector of bank resources with low-to-moderate income community needs. With 20 years of diverse experience in the banking industry, Michelle previously held positions with TD Bank, Wells Fargo and City National Bank.
A firm believer that "if you do the right thing, right things happen," and passionate about utilizing the talent, gifts, and privilege that she’s been afforded to serve others, Michelle enjoys travelling, mentoring youth, empowering women, and investing in the personal development of herself and others.
